There’s a season in a woman's life that doesn’t typically get celebrated the way the others do. It’s not the first bloom of spring, nor the bright heat of summer, but the time after, when the noise of becoming falls away, and something quieter and more permanent settles in. Call it experience, maturity, or wisdom, but what shows is the beauty of a woman who has lived inside her own life long enough to stop performing it. And she's harvested enough seasons to know which things are worth growing and which are not.

In this series of French Art Nouveau images, Autumn is shown in three-quarter view, perhaps reflecting on where she her stage in life. She’s not young, but not old, and wears the expression of someone who has done the work, waited out the season, and arrived at the moment when everything has ripened. She’s not reaching for anything, she already has what she needs.

Her hair is full of the harvest: grapevines wind through it, heavy with clusters, leaves spreading into the composition the way vines spread when they're given time to grow. The grape has carried meaning for as long as people have grown things: abundance, the reward of patience, and a sweetness that only comes after the long work of the season. In the classical world it belonged to Dionysus / Bacchus, to the gods of transformation and pleasure and the things that ripen slowly. 

This pendant is part of a series of four, each cast from a French Art Nouveau button of the early twentieth century. Spring, Summer, and Winter are each listed separately in the shop. They can be worn alone or collected over time, one season at a time.

Cast sterling silver, hallmarked Blue Piranha and .925. 

The pendant measures 1¼ inches, or 3.2 cm, long and ¾ inch, or 1.9 cm, wide, including the bail. Weight: 4.5 grams.

Each pendant is available without a chain, so you may use your own if you prefer. If you want to add a chain, I offer different lengths and styles. Every chain comes with a 2-inch extender, so you can vary the length. Please choose your chain from the options at checkout.
