Description

Biggs jasper is rarely found in pairs. The material itself surfaces on the market sporadically, and the patterning is complex enough that finding two stones with enough visual coherence takes patience. In this pair, deep chocolate brown covers most of each surface, with lighter warm brown and cream in the upper corners, and pale near-white hints appearing where the veining opens up. These rare gems share a palette and a character, without sharing a composition.

The scarcity is real: Biggs jasper was discovered in the 1960s when highway construction exposed a vein of the material in Oregon. Once the highway was completed, the deposit became inaccessible, and other nearby finds have since been depleted. What exists in the market now is what was collected then, which is why good Biggs material - and matched pairs especially - are worth acquiring when they appear.

Each stone sits in a sterling silver bezel. A small textured open circle sits above each bezel, flanked by two silver spheres where the loop meets the stone.

Hallmarked Blue Piranha and .925. Earrings measure 1½ inches (3.8 cm) long from the top of the ear wire, and ¾ inch (1.9 cm) wide. Set on sterling silver ear wires.

A lever back option is available, please see photos and note your preference at checkout.

Your purchase arrives gift boxed, presented in a soft pouch with a story card.

Good for: the friend who asks where everything came from, and the answer here is worth telling. The person who finds a rare material more compelling than an abundant one. The woman who dresses in earth tones and has been looking for the earrings that enhance her rich, neutral color palette.Questions? Please message me. I'm happy to help.

About Biggs Jasper:

Biggs jasper comes from north-central Oregon, discovered in the 1960s when highway construction exposed a vein of the material that had never been seen before. Once the highway was completed, the deposit was no longer accessible. Subsequent finds in nearby areas have since been exhausted, which means the supply in the market today is finite and not being replenished. The stone is known for its landscape-like patterning: warm browns, cream, and dark veining that reads as tree branches, river systems, or desert terrain, depending on the cut. It belongs to the broader category of American West landscape jaspers, a group of sedimentary stones from Oregon and the Oregon-Idaho border known for scenic patterning and warm, neutral palettes. Collectors who know it tend to acquire it when it appears rather than waiting for a better opportunity.
