Description
A half-moon cut is a confident choice. It asks the stone to work within a strong geometric boundary and deliver anyway, and this chrysocolla does exactly that. Primarily a deep teal-green with lighter streaking across the face, the cab fills the shape without fighting it, bringing exactly enough complexity to keep from feeling minimal. The shape is an unusual, made using excellent lapidary skills to keep the clean lines and control the sharp corners, and it takes equal skill to set well, especially with a minimally patterned gem that provides no distractions.
Spheres in various sizes bubble across the top of the setting. Each sphere is individually placed so the grouping gives a "frilled" effect which ornaments the stone, rather than overpowering it. The flat edge of the half-moon sits flush in the bezel, the curved base below it completing a shape that looks considered and deliberate from every angle.
Hallmarked .925 and Blue Piranha.
Size: just under 1 inch (2.5 cm) long from top of bail to bottom of pendant, and 1 inch (2.5 cm) wide. Weight is 8.3 grams.

About Chrysocolla: Chrysocolla is a copper-bearing mineral that forms in the oxidized zones of copper deposits, often alongside turquoise, malachite, and azurite. It gets its color from iron and shares the blue-green range with turquoise, though the two are distinct minerals. It takes a high polish and shows a wider range of color than most turquoise. When azurite is present, the palette deepens toward cobalt and indigo, adding complexity to the stone's already variable color range.
