Description

Green Royston turquoise doesn't show up as often as the brown-and-blue variety, and this freeform cabochon is a good example of why collectors watch for it. The stone is a clear, bright green with warm reddish-brown matrix scattered across the surface in patches, and a slight translucency that gives the color a lit quality from certain angles. It's a small stone with a lot going on inside it.

The Royston mine in Nevada is one of the American Southwest's most distinctive turquoise sources, known for producing stones in a color range unlike most other American turquoise. The mine's output is finite, and green stones from this source are rarer still.

A sterling silver bezel holds the cabochon. Along the upper edge a row of oxidized silver granules, each individually polished, frames the stone without crowding it. The simple round bail above keeps the pendant light and versatile, easy to layer on an existing chain or wear alone on a cord.

Hallmarked Blue Piranha and .925. The pendant measures ¾ inch (1.9 cm) long from the top of the bail to the bottom of the pendant, and 1 inch (2.5 cm) wide. Weight is 5.2 grams.

Each pendant is available without a chain, so you may use your own if you prefer. If you want to add a chain, I offer different lengths and styles. Every chain comes with a 2-inch extender so you can vary the length. Please choose your chain from the options at checkout.

Your purchase arrives gift boxed, presented in a soft pouch with a story card.

Good for: a gift for the woman who wears turquoise the way other people wear a signature scent, consistently and without occasion. For the woman whose jewelry box has a Southwest chapter and room for one more. A gift for any woman who travels light and layers well.

About Royston Turquoise:

Royston turquoise comes from the Royston mine in Lander County, Nevada, one of the American Southwest's most distinctive turquoise sources. It's known for producing turquoise in greens and blue-greens set against warm brown and reddish host rock, a combination unlike most other American turquoise. Boulder Royston, sometimes called ribbon turquoise, is cut to preserve the host rock rather than remove it, so the finished stone shows the natural relationship between the turquoise and the matrix it formed in. The result is a stone that looks more like a landscape than a gem.
