Polychrome jasper cabochons in an unusual cut that reads architectural, almost like a modernist building block. The colors are a warm, layered mix: dove gray and soft sage shifting into warm tan and rust-orange, with a diagonal band of deeper rust cutting across the surface. These evoke rain-washed landscapes seen from a distance, or walls of a canyon at the hour when every layer of sediment is lit differently. The cut itself is part of the story: the trapezoid orientation puts the diagonal banding on display in a way a standard teardrop or oval wouldn't.

Above each jasper cabochon, a small round carnelian sits in its own bezel, saturated orange-red and slightly translucent, with the warm inner glow that good carnelian carries. The contrast between the warm, neutral jasper below and the vivid carnelian above is immediate and deliberate. 

Between the two stones, two curved textured bars bracket each side with small silver spheres at the joints, connecting the carnelian above to the jasper below and giving the whole piece a vertical rhythm that the trapezoid cut reinforces.

Hallmarked Blue Piranha and .925. Earrings measure 2 inches (5.1 cm) long from the top of the ear wire, and ½ inch (1.3 cm) wide. Weight is just under 16 grams. Set on sterling silver ear wires.

Polychrome jasper, sometimes called desert jasper, is found exclusively in Madagascar. The name refers to its range of color: soft neutrals, warm browns, gray, and rich autumnal tones that shift across the surface of a single stone. The deposits are small and found infrequently, which makes supply unpredictable and good material worth acquiring when it appears. Originally discovered around 2008, it has become a favorite with collectors for the depth and variation of its palette.

Carnelian is a translucent to semi-opaque variety of chalcedony, the reddish-orange member of a mineral family that also includes onyx and chrysoprase. Its color ranges from pale orange to deep orange-red, with the most saturated stones showing a warm inner glow when held to the light. One of the oldest gems used in jewelry, carnelian has been found in ancient Egyptian, Roman, and Greek adornments. It is primarily sourced today from India, Sri Lanka, and Brazil.
