Polychrome Jasper, Smoky Quartz Earrings, Sterling Silver, Two Stone, Natural Gem, Handmade Statement Jewelry
Description
Elegance in an earring: two stones that were meant to be together. The lower cabochon is a long, pointed teardrop of polychrome jasper: soft gray shifting into warm brown, with a subtle internal movement that changes depending on the light and the angle. It's a quiet stone until you look directly at it, and then it's not quiet at all. Above it, a small round smoky quartz cabochon in warm amber-brown catches the light: glassy and translucent where the jasper is opaque, warm where the jasper is cool. The contrast between the two stones is the whole point of this piece, and it works because neither stone is trying to outdo the other.
Between the two stones are two curved textured bars, with small silver spheres at the joints. The connective element turns two separate bezel-set gems into a single composed piece. The overall silhouette, a small glowing circle above a long pointed drop, is a study in contrasts.
Hallmarked Blue Piranha and .925. Earrings measure 2¼ inches (5.7 cm) long from the top of the ear wire, and ½ inch (1.3 cm) wide. Weight is just under 16 grams. Set on sterling silver ear wires.

About Polychrome Jasper:
Polychrome jasper, sometimes called desert jasper, is found exclusively in Madagascar. The name refers to its range of color: soft neutrals, warm browns, gray, and rich autumnal tones that shift across the surface of a single stone. The deposits are small and rarely found, which means availability is unpredictable. Originally discovered around 2008, it has become a favorite with collectors for the depth and variation of its palette.
About Smoky Quartz:
Smoky quartz is found primarily in Brazil, Madagascar, and the Swiss Alps, among other locations. The translucency is one of its defining qualities, giving even a small cabochon a sense of depth that opaque stones can't replicate.
