Utah Tiffany Stone Dangle Earrings, Handmade Natural Gem Cabochon Drops, Sterling Silver

Tiffany stone is one of those gems that defies easy description, and these earrings prove it. The round cabochons in this pair are having a quieter moment: soft grays, cream, dusty blue, white, and flickers of ochre yellow seem to swirl beneath the surface like weather moving through a pale sky. Looking into them is like cloud watching, or gazing into a very personal crystal ball.

Each gem is hand-selected from Utah, the only place in the world where Tiffany stone is found. The cabochons hang from textured sterling silver circles paired with small silver spheres, which suspend from textured ovals. The line textures etched into the silver are deliberate counterpoints to the soft, pillowy look of the stones. The set is designed to let the gems do the talking while the metalwork gives them somewhere worth hanging.

Hallmarked Blue Piranha and stamped .925. Earrings measure 1¾ inches (4.5 cm) long from the top of the ear wire, and ½ inch (1.3 cm) wide. Set on sterling silver ear wires.

Found only in Western Utah, this unusual stone is composed of predominantly opalized fluorite, with a predominant purple hue. It's also often found mixed with many other minerals such as quartz, chalcedony, dolomite, rhodonite, and manganese oxides, giving it a fairly wide range of sublte colors, though the soft purple is the best known.
