Amazonite Flower Pendant, Sterling Silver, Teal Blue Oval Cabochon, Handmade Art Jewelry Necklace
Description
Amazonite in this color is one of spirit-lifting hues of the gem world. The oval cabochon at the center of this pendant is a clear, saturated teal-blue, smooth and slightly translucent, with a quality that makes the color seem to come from inside the stone rather than sit on its surface. There's no matrix, no pattern, no distraction. It's just that color, doing exactly what it needs to do.
This stone comes from Russia, one of the primary sources for amazonite in this particular depth of color. It's a feldspar, in the same mineral family as labradorite and moonstone, though it doesn't flash or shift; instead, its appeal is singular and direct.
The setting surrounds the bezel with a ring of irregular silver discs, each one a slightly different shape and surface: some smooth, some textured, some with a small sphere at their center. The overall effect is floral without being literal about it, a petal arrangement that holds the stone without framing it too formally. A textured handmade bail above lets the design be layered or worn alone.
Hallmarked Blue Piranha and .925. The pendant measures just under 1½ inches (3.8 cm) long from the top of the bail to the bottom of the pendant, and just over ¾ inch (1.9 cm) wide. Weight is 8.4 grams.
Each pendant is available without a chain, so you may use your own if you prefer. If you want to add a chain, I offer different lengths and styles. Every chain comes with a 2-inch extender so you can vary the length. Please choose your chain from the options at checkout.
Your purchase arrives gift boxed, presented in a soft pouch with a story card.
Good for: the woman who doesn't "do" delicate florals. A gift for the collector who wants craft and color. A keepsake for the person who wants something feminine without being precious about it.

About Amazonite:
Amazonite takes its name from the Amazon River, though no amazonite has been found there. It's a relatively uncommon feldspar, in the same mineral family as labradorite and moonstone, but without the optical flash those stones are known for. Its appeal is in its color: a clear blue-green that ranges from pale aqua to deep teal depending on the source. Russia produces some of the most saturated examples. The source of its coloring has been debated, but copper is widely considered the cause, which would place it in the same color family as turquoise and chrysocolla for the same reason.
