Astrea was the last of the immortals to leave Earth. When humanity declined into the Iron Age, the final and darkest of the five Ages of Man in Greek mythology, the gods retreated one by one to the heavens. This goddess of fairness, justice, and order held on while the others left, but eventually even she went. Zeus placed her in the sky as the constellation Virgo, where she watches over the world still.

Her name means "star maiden." Mythology holds that she will return one day, and when she does a new Golden Age will begin, with a time of harmony and order restored. She is, in the oldest sense of the word, a figure of hope.

This pendant is cast from an antique Victorian-era button and is one of the smallest items in the collection. It wears quietly but solidly, as a layering piece or on its own, and carries more mythology than its size suggests.

Cast in sterling silver, hallmarked Blue Piranha and stamped .925. The pendant measures ¾ inch (1.9 cm) long and ½ inch (1.3 cm) wide. The pendant is smaller than a U S dime.  Weight is 3 grams.
