The neutral that isn't: the banding in these long, pointed agate cabochons runs in clean horizontal layers from the top of the stone to the tip, shifting from cream and white through warm tan and brown to near-black at the point. It reads like a core sample, or the wall of a canyon at the end of the day when the light is waning and every stratum is visible at once. The expert cut defines these, as a less careful hand would have lost the gradient entirely.

The stones hang from two curved wire wings spreading from a central silver sphere, sitting just above the bezel like a crossbar. It's a small piece of metalwork with a lot of personality, and it keeps the eye moving between the metal and the stone rather than settling on one or the other.

Hallmarked Blue Piranha and .925. Earrings measure 2 inches (5.1 cm) long from the top of the ear wire, and ½ inch (1.3 cm) wide. Weight is 14.7 grams. Set on sterling silver ear wires.
