Chrysocolla has a color problem, in the best possible sense: it can't seem to settle on one version of blue-green. These oval cabochons run deep and saturated, somewhere between a forest-shadowed pool and a patch of high desert sky on a cloudy afternoon. The surfaces often show rich pools of color with hints of green that pull away from the blue, depending on the light. Each one was hand-selected years ago, chosen for the depth and evenness of color.

The A-frame setting is the right architecture for these stones

The A-frame setting is a contrasting architecture of linear and circular design. Two curved, textured bars sweep downward and outward from a small silver loop, widening as they descend to cradle the bezel-set oval at the base. Fine linear texture runs the length of each bar. Small silver spheres sit at intervals along the frame as quiet accent points, not decoration for its own sake but punctuation for the overall line.

Hallmarked Blue Piranha and .925. Earrings measure 2 inches (5.1 cm) long from the top of the ear wire, and 1 inch (2.5 cm) wide, set on sterling silver ear wires. Weight is 14.9 grams.

Chrysocolla is a copper-bearing mineral that forms in the oxidized zones of copper deposits, often alongside turquoise, malachite, and azurite. It gets its color from iron and shares the blue-green range with turquoise, though the two are distinct minerals. It takes a high polish and shows a wider range of color than most turquoise. When azurite is present, the palette deepens toward cobalt and indigo, adding complexity to the stone's already variable color range.
