Chrysocolla Malachite Pendant, Sterling Silver, Oxidized Granulation, Teal Green Swirl Necklace, One of a Kind

Chrysocolla malachite forms where two copper minerals meet in the same deposit, and when the conditions are right, the result is this: swirling bands of deep teal and vivid green, layered and moving across the surface in a pattern that no two stones ever replicate. The undulating patterns of this triangular cabochon are reminiscent of Van Gogh's Starry Night, the movement seeming to ebb and flow as the colors shift from lighter to darker. At the center is a small natural opening, which provides even more contrast between the polished outer surface and the matte cavity within, adding to the visual treat of this unusual gem. 

Spheres in various sizes arc across the top of the setting. Each sphere is individually placed so the grouping gives a "frilled" effect which ornaments the stone, rather than overpowering it. The rounded spheres reference and emphasize the rounded shapes on the gem surface. 

Hallmarked .925 and Blue Piranha.

Size: just under 1 inch (2.5 cm) long from top of bail to bottom of pendant, and 1 inch (2.5 cm) wide. Weight is 7.7 grams.

About Chrysocolla

Chrysocolla is a copper-bearing mineral that forms in the oxidized zones of copper deposits, often alongside turquoise, malachite, and azurite. Copper gives chrysocolla its characteristic blue to blue-green color. Iron, when present, tends to pull the color toward greener or darker tones, and the warm brown and darker patches visible in many specimens are typically iron oxide in the host rock matrix. It takes a high polish, and shows a wider range of color than most turquoise. When malachite is present, as it is in this pendant, the palette deepens toward rich green, and the characteristic banding of malachite adds a layered complexity that makes each stone entirely individual.
