Description

Certain labradorites will always evoke a forest at the time of day the Scottish call the gloaming: the moments immediately after the sun sets, but before the sky goes completely dark. Culturally, the dusky period of fading light is often associated with a time of quiet reflection, the transition from work to rest, while in folk tales, it’s considered the time when spirits and fae are most active.

Whether it evokes serenity or calls to a livelier energy, there’s no question that the gem packs a lot of glow within its small borders. The green flashes run in bold, directional bands across the stone's surface, while the elongated triangle shape focuses that flash into something almost architectural: a point at the base, a clean rise to the crown, forming a gem that catches the light and refuses to let go.

Spheres in various sizes arc across the top and extend slightly down the sides of the setting. Each sphere is individually placed so the grouping gives a "frilled" effect which ornaments the stone, rather than overpowering it. The frilled upper section contrasts dramatically with the sharp lines of the gem below, structured and free-flowing all at once.

Hallmarked Blue Piranha and .925.

Size: 1 1/4 inches (3.2 cm) long from top of bail to bottom of pendant, and 3/4 inch (1.9 cm) wide. Weight is 7 grams.

The pendant arrives gift boxed in a soft pouch with a story card.

Each pendant is available without a chain. If you'd like to add one, I offer several lengths and styles, please choose from the options at checkout. Every chain comes with a 2-inch extender so you can vary the length.

Good for: the person who wants an everyday pendant that never once looks like an afterthought. The mystic who's been looking for something that feels both ancient and entirely now. The woman who collects things with an inner life, and recognizes one immediately when she sees it.

For the one who wants something small enough to be subtle, but striking enough to make subtlety look like a power move.

About Labradorite

Labradorite is a feldspar mineral named for the Labrador Peninsula in Canada, where it was first described, though it's also found in Finland, Madagascar, and Mexico. It's prized for labradorescence, an optical phenomenon caused by light refracting between internal crystal layers, producing flashes of blue, green, gold, and violet that shift as the viewing angle changes. The base color is typically dark gray to near-black; the flash is what gives the stone its character. A particularly vivid variety from Finland, known as spectrolite, shows the full color spectrum in a single stone. The green and teal flash in this pendant sits on the rarer end of the labradorite color range, where blue is more common.
