Rainbow Moonstone Pendant, Sterling Silver, Oxidized Granulation, Teardrop Necklace, One of a Kind, Wearable Art
Description
There's a word for what moonstone does, that floating, billowy light that drifts across the surface of the stone as it moves. It's called adularescence, and this gem has plenty of it: a strong blue flash that shifts with the kind of unhurried luminosity that stops people mid-conversation. Moonstone has long had associations with the moon because of its ethereal glow and pale hue, worn as tribute to Greek goddess Selene or her Roman counterpart Luna, both goddesses of female empowerment, fertility, and the cycles of time.
Spheres in various sizes arc across the top and extend slightly down the sides. Each sphere is individually placed so the grouping gives a "frilled" effect which ornaments the stone, rather than overpowering it. The soft glow and translucency of this particular moonstone give the impression of a mystical drop of water.
Hallmarked .925 and Blue Piranha.
Size: just under 1 inch (2.5 cm) long from top of bail to bottom of pendant, and 3/4 inch (1.9 cm) wide. Weight is 7.8 grams.
The pendant arrives gift boxed in a soft pouch with a story card.
Each pendant is available without a chain. If you'd like to add one, I offer several lengths and styles, please choose from the options at checkout. Every chain comes with a 2-inch extender so you can vary the length.
Good for: the woman who wants something ancient and luminous and entirely her own. The jewelry lover who wants something that looks like early morning light on still water. The dreamer who wants drama without noise.

About Moonstone
Rainbow moonstone is a variety of labradorite feldspar prized for its adularescence, which is an optical phenomenon in which light scatters between microscopic layers within the stone, producing a floating, billowy glow that shifts across the surface as the viewing angle changes. The blue flash characteristic of the finest specimens comes from the thickness and regularity of the internal layers. Stones with a strong, centered blue adularescence against a white or translucent body are the most prized. Moonstone is found primarily in India and Sri Lanka, and quality varies significantly. The difference between a fine stone and an ordinary one is immediately visible in the strength and color of the flash.
