Description

Turquoise in a freeform shape has a quality that precision cuts rarely achieve: a sort of laid-back looseness, an “as found in nature” effect that looks like it arrived on its own terms. This cabochon is a vibrant blue-green, with a matrix that’s worth retaining as part of this design. The pale blue patches and dark brown patches that could give the impression of a vast sky soaring above a canyon wall at the gem’s lower edge.

Spheres of various sizes surround the stone. Each sphere is individually planned and placed so the grouping gives a "frilled" effect, which ornaments the stone rather than overpowering it. The dark silver pulls the teal forward and gives the pendant a weight that matches the stone's presence, accenting its outline in with a similarly organic feel.

Hallmarked .925 and Blue Piranha.

Size: 2 inches, or 5.1 cm, long from top of bail to bottom of pendant, and just under 1 inch, or 2.5 cm, wide. Weight is 10.8 grams.

The pendant arrives gift boxed in a soft pouch with a story card.

Each pendant is available without a chain. If you'd like to add one, I offer several lengths and styles, please choose from the options at checkout. Every chain comes with a 2-inch extender so you can vary the length.

Good for: the person who collects with intention and wears with conviction. The jewelry lover who finds the landscape in unexpected places. The woman who wears her Southwest obsession with quiet authority.

About Turquoise

Turquoise is one of the oldest gemstones in continuous use, prized by ancient Egyptians, Persians, Tibetans, and the Indigenous peoples of the American Southwest for thousands of years. Its coloring ranges from pale sky blue to deep blue-green depending on the ratio of copper to iron in its composition: copper produces the blue, iron shifts it toward green. The five major turquoise-producing regions of the world are the American Southwest, Iran, China, Mexico, and Tibet, and each produces stones with a distinct character. The stone in this pendant comes from China, one of the world's significant turquoise sources, known for producing stones with vivid blue-green color and bold matrix patterning. High-quality natural turquoise is increasingly rare across all sources.
