Kingman Turquoise Pendant, Sterling Silver, Oxidized Granulation, Blue Green, Arizona Gem, Artisan Necklace
Description
Kingman turquoise has been coming out of the same mine in northwestern Arizona since the 1880s, and the color it produces is the reason collectors keep coming back. This cabochon is a vivid blue-green, saturated and bright, with warm brown matrix veining that moves through the stone in thin, meandering lines. It's the kind of turquoise that looks like Western sky and high desert in the same stone, and it doesn't need much help to make its case.
Spheres in various sizes arc across the top and extend slightly down the sides. Each sphere is individually placed so the grouping gives a "frilled" effect which ornaments the stone, rather than overpowering it. The clean bezel setting and low-dome cut of the stone maximize the gem that's held its appeal for thousands of years, and the slight shield shape is appropriate for what many cultures consider a protective gem.
Hallmarked .925 and Blue Piranha.
Size: just under 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) long from top of bail to bottom of pendant, and 3/4 inch (1.9 cm) wide. Weight is 7.8 grams.
The pendant arrives gift boxed in a soft pouch with a story card.
Each pendant is available without a chain. If you'd like to add one, I offer several lengths and styles, please choose from the options at checkout. Every chain comes with a 2-inch extender so you can vary the length.
Good for: the friend who left the desert, but kept the palette. The connoisseur one who knows mine names the way other people know designers. The woman who wants vivid color worn with quiet confidence.

About Turquoise:
Turquoise is one of the oldest gemstones in continuous use, prized by ancient Egyptians, Persians, Tibetans, and the Indigenous peoples of the American Southwest for thousands of years. Its coloring ranges from pale sky blue to deep blue-green depending on the ratio of copper to iron in its composition: copper produces the blue, iron shifts it toward green. The five major turquoise-producing regions of the world are the American Southwest, Iran, China, Mexico, and Tibet, and each produces stones with a distinct character.
The stone in this pendant comes from Kingman, Arizona, one of the oldest and most productive turquoise sources in North America, known for its soft, yet vivid, blue-green color and characteristic brown matrix.
